Workspaces and folders

A workspace is a folder on your computer that the agent works in. Add a workspace for each project, and authorize extra folders when a task needs files from elsewhere.

What a workspace is

When you add a workspace, LatentWork can read the files in that folder and create and edit files there for you: spreadsheets, documents, images, anything. You can drop files into the folder at any time and the agent can pick them up.

Each workspace has its own tasks, its own connected apps, and a few settings of its own (see Workspace settings). Your first workspace is the folder you picked on the welcome screen.

Add a workspace

  1. 1
    Open Create Workspace

Select Add workspace at the top of the sidebar, then choose Local workspace (Create a workspace on this device.).

  2. 2
    Pick the folder

Select Select folder and choose the folder. The path appears in the dialog; Change picks a different one.

  3. 3
    Create it

Select Create Workspace. The workspace appears in the sidebar, named after the folder.

To switch workspace, select it in the sidebar. The task you last had open in it opens again.

Workspace menu

Hover a workspace in the sidebar and select … (Workspace options):

ActionWhat it does
Edit nameChanges the name shown in the sidebar. The folder isn't renamed.
Share...Opens Share workspace.
Reveal in FinderOpens the folder in Finder (Reveal in Explorer on Windows).
New group...Creates a group for organizing this workspace's tasks. See Tasks and history.
Remove workspaceAsks first, then removes the workspace from the sidebar. Its tasks and the files on disk are kept.

Folders outside the workspace

The agent can work anywhere inside the workspace folder without asking. Before it reads or edits anything outside it, it asks with Access an external folder? (see Permissions and approvals). If a workspace regularly needs another folder, authorize it once instead:

  1. 1
    Open Permissions

Open Settings and select Permissions, under Workspace. It applies to the workspace you have selected.

  2. 2
    Add the folder

Under Authorized folders, select Add folder and choose the folder. The list saves right away.

The agent can then read and edit files in that folder without asking, in this workspace only. The workspace folder itself is always listed first, marked Workspace root, and can't be removed. Select × next to any other folder to remove it.

Authorize with care
An authorized folder is open to the agent in every task in the workspace, for reading and for editing. Don't authorize your whole home folder; add the specific folders a project needs.

Workspace settings

The Workspace group in Settings applies to the workspace selected in the sidebar. Select a different workspace first to change its settings.

SettingPer workspace
PreferencesAuto context compaction is set per workspace. The other two switches on the page apply everywhere.

Files LatentWork adds to a workspace

Path in the folderWhat it holds
.latentcode/skills/Skills saved for this workspace. See Skills.
.latent/docs/Copies of documents you attach to messages, so you can open them again from the conversation.

These are ordinary files. If the folder is shared, synced or under version control, they travel with it. The workspace's settings, such as authorized folders and connected apps, aren't stored in the folder: LatentWork keeps them on this computer.
