LatentWorkGet started
Quickstart
Ask LatentWork to build a spreadsheet, approve what it asks, open the result, and change it with a follow-up.
Before you begin
Install LatentWork and finish the welcome screen, as described in Install and first launch. You should be looking at an empty task in your first workspace, with the message box at the bottom showing Describe your task....
1. Describe the task
Click in the message box and type:
Create a CSV file called expenses.csv with 15 rows of made-up business expenses: date, vendor, category and amount. Then tell me the total per category.Press Enter or select Run task. Use Shift+Enter when you want a new line instead of sending.
The model and team selectors under the message box show what this task uses. The defaults are fine for this example; see Models, teams and usage to change them.
2. Follow the work
While the agent works, the task view shows what it is doing:
- Thinking while it plans. Turn on Show model reasoning in Settings → Preferences to read the reasoning when the model provides it.
- Each step as it happens: files it reads or writes, searches, and commands it runs.
- A Progress list above the message box when the agent breaks the work into steps, updated as it finishes each one.
The task also gets a title from your first message, shown in the sidebar under your workspace.
3. Answer approvals
Writing a CSV in your workspace doesn't need approval. If the agent wants to do something that does, such as run a command that changes things or fetch a web page, a panel appears above the message box, for example Run a shell command?, with three choices:
- Deny: refuse the request.
- Allow once: allow this request only.
- Allow for session: allow this and matching requests for the rest of this task.
The task waits until you answer. See Permissions and approvals for what the agent asks about.
4. Open the result
When the agent finishes, it names the file it made, such as expenses.csv, and lists the totals. Open the file:
- 1Click the file
Click the file name in the reply, or the Artifacts button at the top right of the task. The file opens in a panel on the right.
- 2Edit it if you like
CSV files open as an editable table. Change a cell, add a Row or a Column, then select Save to write it back to the file. Discard throws away your edits.
- 3Find it on disk
Show in folder opens the file's folder in Finder or File Explorer. Download artifact saves a copy somewhere else.
5. Follow up
A task keeps its conversation and its files. Send a follow-up in the same task:
Add a chart of the totals as a Markdown report called expenses-report.mdIf you send a message while the agent is still working, Enter doesn't send it straight away. Choose Steer to send it now and let the agent adjust mid-task, or Queue to send it once the agent finishes. To stop the agent, select Stop, or press Esc twice in the message box.
