LatentWorkGet started
Install and first launch
Install LatentWork from your LatentStack server, connect it to your gateway, and pick the folder it works in.
Before you begin
- Your LatentStack API key. It starts with
ls-. Copy it from the API Key card on your Account page, or select Generate API key there if you don't have one yet. - Your LatentStack server's address, for example
https://latentstack.dev. It's the address of the site these docs are served from. - On macOS and Linux,
curl.
Install
The LatentStack installer on the Install page installs LatentWork together with the LatentCode CLI and the editor extension. To install only the desktop app, run:
curl -fsSL https://latentstack.dev/install-desktop.sh | bashThe script downloads the app from your server and installs it:
| Platform | What the script does |
|---|---|
| macOS | Installs LatentWork in Applications. |
| Linux | Installs LatentWork and adds it to your app menu. |
| Windows | Installs LatentWork with Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts. |
If the script ends with No … desktop build available, your server has no LatentWork build for your platform. Ask your administrator.
First launch
Open LatentWork from Launchpad, Spotlight, your app menu or the Start Menu. The first time, you see the Welcome to LatentWork screen.
- 1Enter your gateway
LatentRouter is the app's name for your LatentStack gateway. Under Connect to LatentRouter, fill in LatentRouter URL with your server's address, for example
https://latentstack.dev, and paste your key into API Key. Show reveals the key so you can check it.Test Connection checks that LatentWork can reach the server and shows
Connection successful.if it can. - 2Pick a folder
Select Pick a folder to get started. LatentWork saves the connection and opens a folder picker titled Authorize folder. Choose the folder you want the agent to work in. It becomes your first workspace. You can pick an empty folder or one that already has files.
- 3Start working
LatentWork shows Creating workspace…, then opens a new task with the cursor in the message box, ready for your first instruction. Continue with the Quickstart.
The welcome screen appears only until you finish it. After that, if LatentWork has no API key, it shows a Connect to LatentRouter dialog on top of the app instead, with the same fields, Test Connection and Save & Continue. To change the connection later, use Settings → LatentRouter.
Connection errors
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Server unreachable. Check the URL and try again. | LatentWork got no answer from that address. Check the URL, and that this computer can open it in a browser. |
| Server returned an error (…) | Something answered, but not successfully. Check the URL points at your LatentStack server and not at another site. |
| Invalid API key — the server rejected the credentials. | The server refused the key. Copy it again from your Account page. |
Test Connection confirms the server is reachable. If the profile menu (bottom left) shows Gateway unreachable after you connect, see Troubleshooting.
Updates
LatentWork checks for new versions in the background and tells you when one is available. You choose when to download and when to restart. The controls are in Settings → Updates. Running the installer again also installs the latest version your server has.
Uninstall
The LatentStack uninstaller removes LatentWork along with the other tools. See Install. It also deletes your task history and settings unless you choose to keep them. Your workspace folders are never touched.
Installation FAQ
macOS says the app is damaged or from an unidentified developer
This happens when the app was downloaded in a browser. Reinstall with the install script.
macOS: it was installed in my own Applications folder, not the main one
It works from either place.
Linux: nothing happens when I open the AppImage myself
Use the install script instead of opening the AppImage directly.
Where do I get an API key?
From your Account page. Regenerate replaces your key, and the old one stops working immediately, including in LatentWork and LatentCode.
