Tasks and history

Every conversation with the agent is a task. Start tasks, find old ones, organize them in the sidebar, and roll a task back when it goes the wrong way.

Tasks and sessions are the same thing

Some places in the app say session instead of task; they mean the same thing.

Start a task

Each task belongs to one workspace and works in that workspace's folder. To start one:

Select + (New task) on the workspace in the sidebar.
Press ⌘+N on macOS or Ctrl+N on Windows and Linux, when you're not typing in a text field. The task starts in the selected workspace.
Open the command palette (⌘/Ctrl+K) and choose Create new session.

A new task is called New session until you send your first message. It's then titled from what you asked.

The sidebar

The sidebar lists your workspaces, each with its tasks underneath. Expand or collapse a workspace to show or hide its tasks. Long lists show the first few tasks and a Show … more link. A dot beside a task means it's working right now.

Pinned tasks stay at the top.
Groups collect tasks under a heading of your choice, such as Done or In progress. Tasks in no group appear under Ungrouped.
Archived tasks move to a collapsed Archived section at the bottom of the workspace.

Hide or show the sidebar with ⌘/Ctrl+B. Drag its edge to make it wider.

Hover a task and select … for these actions. Right-clicking a task offers the most common ones.

Action	What it does
Pin session	Keeps the task at the top of the workspace. Unpin session undoes it.
Rename session	Opens Rename session. Type a new Session name and select Save.
Open in split view	Shows this task beside the one you have open, so you can read both. Only offered for another task in the workspace that's open. Close split view (or Close pane) goes back to one.
Move to group	Moves the task into a group, or to No group. New group... asks for a name and creates one.
Archive session	Moves the task into Archived. Unarchive session brings it back.
Delete session	Asks Delete session? first, then permanently deletes the task and its messages.

Pins, groups and the order of tasks are kept on this computer only.

Delete can't be undone

Deleting a task removes its conversation for good. Files the agent created or changed in your workspace stay where they are.

Find a task

Press ⌘/Ctrl+K and choose Search sessions. Type part of a task's title or its workspace name, use the arrow keys to pick one, and press Enter to open it. Tasks in the workspace you're in are listed first, then the rest, newest first.

Search matches titles and workspace names, not the text of messages. Rename tasks you want to find later.

Message actions

Hover a message to see its actions.

Action	On	What it does
Edit message	Your messages	Rolls the task back to before that message and puts its text in the message box, so you can change it and send it again. Not available for messages with attachments. While the agent is working it's Stop and edit.
Copy	Any message	Copies the message text.
Branch in new chat	Any message	Starts a new task containing the conversation up to that point. The original task is unchanged.
Revert	Any message	Rolls the task back to just before that message, removing it and everything after it, and undoes the file changes the agent made in that part.

When to revert and when to branch

Revert when the agent went the wrong way and you want the files back as they were. Branch when you want to try a different direction and keep the original task too.

Long tasks and context

Every model can read a limited amount of conversation at once, its context window. The ring next to the message box shows how full it is. When a task gets close to the limit, LatentWork summarizes the earlier conversation so the task can continue (this is on by default). You can also type /compact to do it yourself. Where tasks are stored

Tasks are stored on your computer, in LatentWork's app data folder, not on your LatentStack server. A task appears only while its workspace is in the sidebar: remove the workspace and its tasks are hidden but kept, and they come back when you add the same folder again.
